I love acai bowls :) Especially in the spring!
Acai is packed with antioxidants and plant sterols that improve circulation, prevent blood clots, and promote heart health. It detoxify's, promoting healthy digestion and healthy weight maintenance. The energy boosting berry can improve circulation, mental function, and performance. Acai may even help prevent against cancer and has anti-aging benefits.
My problem with most acai bowls: they have plenty of health benefits, and are delicious, but typically packed with fruit and missing the key point: Protein!
Here's my basic recipe for an acai that doesn't leave the protein out. I made it only 225 calories so that you have space to add some fruit, granola, or whatever!
Here is the macronutrient profile:
Ingredients:
1/4 Cup Plain 0% Fat Greek Yogurt
4 oz Sambazon Acai Juice
1/2 Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
1 Scoop Protein Powder
*I used Isopure, but I'd also like to try the GNC Superfood 25
Instructions:
The acai juice will go bad within 7 days of opening, so I immediately pour it into silicone baking cups (4oz per cup) and freeze overnight.
Combine frozen acai with the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth. Serve immediately with 75 calories of delicious toppings!
